The code cart that checks itself.

smartSTAT is the code cart that reads every medication and supply in every drawer in real time, so expired or missing items are caught before a code, not during one.

Patent pending. US App. Nos. 19/454,784, 64/116,147, 64/116,313.

Thanks for finally asking us about this. Restocking crash carts pulls us away from patients and it's one of the most frustrating parts of the job.

    The problem

One of the most tedious jobs in the hospital, done by people working below their license

Pharmacists, materials management staff and nurses spend hours every week checking code carts item by item.

    • Labor-intensive manual checks
    • Missing or expired items
    • Inspecting every cart during recalls
    • Fragmented staff workflows
    • Inventory waste and limited usage data

    Why we built this

One night in the cardiac ICU, a patient's heart rate dropped and I asked the nurse to grab atropine from the code cart. His rate recovered before we gave it, which was the good news. The bad news was that the cart had been opened. Pharmacy had to pull it and recheck every medication with a cumbersome pharmacy system, while distribution checked every supply by hand. The next day I counted how many times a week that happens in one hospital, and how many of those hours belong to the most experienced people in the building. smartSTAT is the cart I wanted that night: one that already knows what is inside it.

    Our solution

Every item in every drawer, tracked where the cart sits

The cart reads its own drawers, so staff restock by exception instead of inspecting every cart.

    How it works

    Know before the code

Per-drawer status lights, the cart display and a central dashboard show what is present, what is missing and what expires next, across every cart in the hospital.
